The problems with speed optimization tools

2018-08-23T07:36:04-06:00January 8th, 2018|

If you are very familiar with me you know I tend to obsess over site speed. It is one thing that I have become very passionate about over the years and I find the correlation to it and e-commerce immensely interesting. But at the same time, I find it confusing as hell too. It has been a ranking factor in Google for a couple of years, so obviously it is important. There are also a plethora of tools on the market that can measure your site's speed and give a diagnosis of problems and suggested fixes. So with all the tools on [...]

Grammar matters in e-commerce

2018-08-23T07:36:11-06:00January 5th, 2018|

Believe it or not, the grammar you use on your website does matter to buyers. Poorly written descriptions can make customers not trust your site with their purchases. I for one feel hesitant in doing business with a site that has a lot of typos and grammatical errors. Over this past weekend, I was looking through my newsfeed and found a pretty interesting product that can help with your grammar. It is called Grammarly. How does it work Grammarly is a browser plugin that you can install on your browser and it will catch grammar errors in the content on your [...]

A year in thirty bees

2018-08-23T07:36:18-06:00January 3rd, 2018|

It has been almost a year to the day that we decided to start thirty bees. The last year has been very eventful for us with thirty bees taking off faster than we expected. From the idea of making something better to making it a reality has been a journey, but it has been awesome so far. The one thing that makes all of this worthwhile is our community. They have stuck with us, reported bugs, helped us fix issues, given input on merchant processes, and even helped support us in both our Indiegogo and Patreon campaigns. What have we accomplished [...]

Two new community modules

2018-08-23T07:37:28-06:00December 18th, 2017|

Today we are happy to announce the addition of two new modules to our community repository and store. Over the years I have come to realize how much speed means to e-commerce shops. It can increase conversion and also affect search engine placement. These two modules that have been added to the community repository are a bit of outlier modules. The do not increase your site speed for the average user. In fact, they do not change it at all. What they do however is increase the perceived Page Speed to Google. The techniques that are used in these modules is [...]

thirty bees community repository

2018-08-23T07:37:36-06:00December 13th, 2017|

We are happy to announce today that we are starting a new initiative to help bring more free and open source modules to the thirty bees platform. We have created a community GitHub repo that we will let our community decide the direction of. The repository will be a great place for our community to get together and collaborate on modules or to find new modules to fork into the repository. We will even accept module donations from developers that do not want to deal with upkeep on modules. But... But we need community members to run the community repository. We [...]

thirty bees store launches

2018-08-23T07:38:26-06:00December 11th, 2017|

Today we are excited to announce that we have launched our official store. It has been a long time in the making and it is finally ready for use by the public. The store is in beta mode, so there might be some bugs, but it should be operational enough to be utilized by our community. The thirty bees store is a culmination of the whole idea behind thirty bees. We want to enable merchants easy access to quality, free open source modules. This is where a lot of the testing and development has come in. We have developed our store [...]

thirty bees store update

2017-12-06T02:15:54-06:00December 6th, 2017|

Behind the scenes we have been working on our store getting it buttoned up and ready to launch. We are hoping to have it launched Monday the 11th. Its taken longer than we wanted to, but that is often the case when you are designing a system that is made to be expandable and comprehensive from the start.  But it has been well worth the effort. We are planning on launching the store in two phases. The first phase will consist of free open source modules. This is actually where the majority of the work has taken place. We have designed [...]

Module Compatibility: Presto-Changeo

2018-08-23T07:38:37-06:00December 1st, 2017|

I am proud to announce today that we have yet another company willing to support thirty bees with their modules. Presto-Changeo has started testing and modifying their modules to support the thirty bees platform. With their support they bring to the table not only some great modules, but also a lot of experience in knowing what customers need and what our software is lacking. I met Tomer from Presto-Changeo about a year after I got into e-commerce. He has always been around to lend a hand or help me with any issues that I have had. He is one of the [...]

thirty bees partners with Linuxweb

2018-08-23T07:38:43-06:00November 30th, 2017|

We are proud to announce that we have partnered with Linuxweb for hosting in Africa. They bring to the table years of experience in managing linux systems and hosting web sites all around the African continent. The owner of Linuxweb Selwyn Orren is also an active member in the thirty bees community, which makes this partnership even better. There were a few big deciding factors in us partnering with Linuxweb, one of the primary ones is that the owner is active in our community. Selwyn has made several commits to the blog module to fix issues and add more features to [...]
